Russia seeks to revive Iran Six talks – Lavrov

The negotiating process of the Iran Six (Russia, the United States, Britain, France, Germany and China) on a draft Security Council resolution to expand sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program has halted but Russia hopes to revive it, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Friday in a radio interview.

The United States and some European countries suspect Iran of using its nuclear program to develop atomic weapons.

“We are trying to revive the talks with Europeans, Americans, us and Chinese from one side and Iran from the other but they are stalled. We want this process to move forward,” Lavrov said.

The United Nations Security Council has approved several sanctions against Iran’s controversial nuclear program.

Lavrov added that Iran should respect the Security Council’s sanctions but mentioned that there are unilateral sanctions introduced by separate countries. “Unilateral sanctions do not help …. they split a united front.”
