First ring of steel containment vessel installed at Bailong-1 unit

AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 19.08.2026

The first ring of the steel containment vessel (CV1R) has been installed in its design position at the Bailong-1 unit under construction (China), according to the Chinese industry portal CINIE.

The lifting and installation of the ring was completed on 16 August 2026 at 11:38 local time. The operation lasted four hours.

The unit will be equipped with a CAP-1000 reactor. Its construction began in December 2025. The unit is owned and operated by the SPIC corporation through a subsidiary company.

The steel containment vessel consists of five large modules: the bottom head, cylindrical sections (rings one through three), and the top head. It is one of the safety barriers.

The first ring CV1R is the largest and heaviest of the five main components of the containment vessel. Its height is about 15.5 metres, and its maximum internal diameter reaches 39.6 metres.

The module integrates key elements such as equipped airlocks, penetrations, stiffening ribs and overlay plates. The module contains a large number of pre-assembled elements and has a complex design.

The total weight of the lifted structure was about 1021 tonnes, which places extremely high demands on construction organisation and quality control.
