Four units of Tianwan nuclear power plant pass final acceptance

CNNC, PUBLISHED 05.06.2023

Units 3, 4, 5 and 6 of the Tianwan nuclear power plant passed their final acceptance on May 31, in East China's Jiangsu province.

Units 3 and 4 - the second phase of the Tianwan plant - have a unit capacity of about 1.13 million kW. Having started construction on December 27, 2012, the two units were put into commercial operation in February and December 2018 respectively.

Units 5 and 6 - the third phase of the Tianwan plant - have a unit capacity of about 1.12 million kW. Having started construction on December 27, 2015, the two units were put into commercial operation in September 2020 and June 2021 respectively.

The China National Nuclear Power (CNNP) of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) holds a controlling stake in the Tianwan plant. Its six units have so far safely generated more than 370 billion kWh of electricity, which is equivalent to cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 303.40 million tons. This will play an important role in ensuring the energy supply of Jiangsu province, optimizing China's energy mix, promoting green and low-carbon development, as well as helping achieve the nation's carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals.
