Outer dome installed at Zhangzhou 1

CNNC, PUBLISHED 21.02.2023

The outer dome for unit 1 of the China National Nuclear Corporation's (CNNC) Zhangzhou nuclear power plant was successfully hoisted into place on Feb 17, in East China's Fujian province.

It marks the completion of the main structure of the first Hualong One mass construction unit, and lays a solid foundation for subsequent construction, cold functional tests and its connection to the grid.

The outer dome weighs about 420 tons, and was lifted using a 3,200-ton crawler crane. The inner dome of the unit was installed in October 2021. The inner and outer domes respond to the double containment of Hualong One and the installation of the outer dome will improve the unit's safety.

Each Hualong One unit generates approximately 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, meeting the annual electricity demands of up to 1 million people in moderately developed countries. This is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by 3.12 million tons, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 8.16 million tons, or planting more than 70 million trees.
