Argentina and CNNC sign agreement to build HPR-1000

AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 03.02.2022

Nucleoelectrica Argentina and Chinese corporation CNNC have signed an EPC contract for Unit 3 of Atucha NPP (Argentina).

The unit will be equipped with a Chinese Hualong One reactor with a capacity of 1,200 MWe and a service life of 60 years. The investments in construction are expected in the amount of more than 8 billion dollars.

If the project is implemented, Argentina will become the second country where CNNC corporation exports its reactors. Until now, in addition to China, units with Hualong One were built in Pakistan only.

OPINION

Victor Murogov
This critical analysis of the history, state, and prospects of development of modern nuclear technologies shows that nuclear energy market has practically monopolized the design and construction of only one type of reactors (95% of NPPs under construction use pressurized water reactors), which necessitates training of focused specialists involved in the construction and operation of those nuclear power plants.
