452 nuclear units are operating in the world

The current number of the operating nuclear power units in the world is equal to 452. These data are presented in the PRIS database supported by the IAEA.

Another 55 units have the status of the being built one.

Since the beginning of 2018, nine new units were connected to the grid, seven of them in China - "Sanmen-1", "Taishan-1", "Yangjiang-5", "Haiyang-1", "Sanmen-2", "Haiyang-2" and "Tianwan-4".

Two new units were connected to the grid in Russia - "Leningrad-2-1" and "Rostov-4".

One unit was permanently shutdown in the USA - "Oyster Creek-1". Two units were permanently shutdown in Taiwan (China). One unit was permanently shutdown in Russia - "Leningrad-1" with the RBMK-1000 reactor. One unit was permanently shutdown in South Korea - "Wolsong-1".

The construction was started on five new units - "Akkuyu-1", "Kursk-2-1", "Rooppur-2", "Shin-Kori-6" and "Hinkley Point C-1".
