Saudi Arabia postpones by eight years its program for the construction of NPP and solar plants

AtomInfo.Ru, PUBLISHED 25.01.2015

The implementation of plans of Saudi Arabia for the construction of nuclear and solar power plants will require eight years longer than originally anticipated.

Previously it was assumed that in the period up to 2032 the Kingdom will be built not less than 18 MWe nuclear units. In addition, for the same period it was planned to introduce a 54 MWe new renewable capacity.

"At the present time, however, we have revised our forecasts... and focus on 2040 as a key date for the long-term energy planning," said the President of the Saudi Agency K. A. CARE Hashim Yamani at a conference in Abu Dhabi.

Yamani did not explain the reasons for the plan shift for eight years.
